What is GERD?
GERD is a digestive disease in which stomach acid repeatedly comes up into the esophagus, causing problems like heartburn, sour burps, or a burning sensation in the throat. And causes nervousness
GERD SYMPTOMS
Heartburn, a needle-like pricking sensation near the heart, frequent belching, especially after eating or at night, sour belching, feeling of something stuck in the throat, persistent cough or sore throat, difficulty in swallowing food. Waking up suddenly with panic while sleeping.
CAUSE OF GERD
- Eating too much oily or spicy food, obesity, – because of this, there is not enough acid in the stomach to digest the food and the esophageal sphincter is not able to close (sufficient acid is required for the sphincter to close).
- smoking–this weakens the sphincter
- Drinking alcohol – Drinking too much alcohol or drinking neat without mixing it with water weakens the esophageal sphincter and when it enters the intestines, it disturbs the balance of gut bacteria, which leads to increase or decrease in acid production.
- Constipation— Due to this, due to straining during defecation, the anus and all the sphincters become weak which causes piles, sibo, sifo, GERD etc.
- Holding back gas – While sitting in a meeting or class, we often do this which exerts upward pressure, weakening the sphincter.
- Living under STRESS – This puts the body in fight and flight mode due to which the sphincter cannot close properly and slowly weakens and turns into GERD
- Use of antacids which upset the stomach acid balance
Remedies to cure GERD treatment
- Eat less food more often
- chew food too much
- Do not lie down after eating
- sleep after 3 hours after dinner
- Raise the head of the bed slightly 20 to 30 degree
- give up smoking and alcohol permanently
- Eat light food to digest easily (low fodmap diet)
- Sleep on your left side
PERMANENT SOLUTION-
- Activate the Vagus nerve, which will produce the right amount of stomach acid and close the sphincter.
- Take deep breaths so that the body comes into rest and digest mode in which the sphincters relax and close easily.
- Make meditation a part of your daily routine so that stress is reduced and the body remains relaxed.
- Exercise regularly so that the digestive system works properly and there is no problem like constipation and gas.
- Avoid eating foods that trigger acid reflux attacks.
